Asbury Cemetery
McIntire Cemetery

Location: State road #3 and county road 1100 S in Jackson Township, Wells County, Indiana.

The original introduction states: “The Asbury Cemetery lies adjacent to Asbury Chapel from which it took its name.  Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Leonard donated a part of the land for use as a burial ground in 1854.  The first burial here was Mr. David Roby in 1833.  Data was compiled by Scott Jones, Jerry Dowty and Clarence Minniear.”

According to the Evening News-Banner Centennial edition the first settlers were “Nathaniel Batson, John Jones and Daniel Jones” in 1836.  A Jacob Minnich arrived in 1834 and brought his family in 1835.  There are no Roby’s on the list of settlers from 1836-1838.   Also, no Roby’s are listed for Wells County in the 1830 or 1840 censuses.

J. Kraner walked this cemetery in 1999.   It is no longer associated with the church.  J. Lieurance let us copy the burial orders that were available.  The information from the burial orders was incorporated into this revision.
