Hoverstock Cemetery
Location: On State Road 3 / County Road 300 W about a ½ mile south of Zanesville in Union Township, Wells County, Indiana.
The original introduction states “The land for the Hoverstock Cemetery was donated to the community by William and Margaret Hoverstock in memory of his parents Jacob & Phoebe. The first person to be buried here was Allen Knight in 1860. Data was compiled by Clarence Minniear, member of the Wells County Historical Society.”
The Evening News-Banner centennial edition states “ Union township was the last township to be organized…not open for settlement until 1846, having been a part of the Miami Indian Reservation…first settlers…William Rosseau, James Edmundson, Joseph Rich, Milton Davis, Jacob DeWitt, John Wandel, Joseph Davis and E. Bagley.” In the Zanesville Indiana History 1849-1976, it states “William W. Chaney… who helped lay out the Haverstock Cemtery died. (Nov. 28) 1948.”

Minnie Kinnerk was a caretaker for the Waynedale Cemetery. She kept information on several cemeteries in northern Wells County. Her records were also incorporated into this index.
