November Genealogy Workshop 2015
On Thursday, November 5th, the Genealogy Workshop will discover GIS and learn how it can help with genealogical research. Starting time and place is 6:00pm in the Board Room.
The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is a growing database that contains information about specific locations. Aerial views can show elevations, boundaries, water features, roads, addresses and more. Click on a land parcel and see who owns it. Search by last name and see how many people with that name own land in the area. The search produces a printable mailing labels list. When searching for relatives, the labels speed up the process of addressing query letters.
Nov 5th. 6pm. WCPL Board Room. Hope to see you there.
Written by Vi TesterHi, my name is Vi Tester. I moved to Bluffton in 1994 when I was hired as the Reference/Adult Services librarian for the Wells County Public Library. My job title hasn’t changed but the job has grown, just like the Indiana Room which houses the genealogy collection and is part of my job. You can find me upstairs, downstairs or in the stacks.
