In case you haven’t heard, the Summer Reading Program has started! You can sign up today at https://wellscolibrary.org/summer/. Just click on the program for your age group to get started. Teens who read 500 pages will get a book of their choice off of our prize cart. Teens who read 2,500 pages will receive $5 in chamber bucks gift certificate and teens who read 5,000 pages or more will receive an additional $5 in chamber buck gift certificates. All prizes will be available to be picked up on or after July 1. All books read between May 11 and July 31 can be counted for the program. The program will be a bit different this year because of the restrictions that COVID-19 has placed on social gatherings, but don’t worry we still have plenty of fun activities available for you in the form of challenges. In addition to reading pages to earn various prizes, there will be three kinds of challenges that can be completed for entry into weekly, bi-weekly, and end of the program prize drawings for chamber bucks and other prizes. A list of challenges will show under your “Challenges” tab in the Teen Summer Reading Program software after you register and login.
The first kind of challenge is the weekly “Social Media Challenge”. A new challenge will be posted on Tuesdays every week this summer via the Wells County Public Library’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. Teens who complete the challenge’s instructions and respond to the posts either through their own accounts or a parent’s account AND who follow the logging directions in the Summer Reading Program Log “Challenge” tab will be entered into a weekly prize drawing. There is still time to do our current social media challenge of sharing a picture of yourself with your favorite book. Check it out on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/wellscountypubliclibrary/ or
Facebook https://www.facebook.com/WellsCountyPublicLibrary/
The second kind of challenge for teens is the bi-weekly “Program Challenge.” These challenges will require you to get a kit or a code from the library to participate. The current program challenge is the Fantastic Foods and Where to Find Them Challenge. Starting May 18 and running through May 31, we challenge you to try one of our kits that will include snacks from other countries, fun facts, and a trivia question. Eat, read, and answer the question for a chance to win a prize! Call the library at 824-1612 to arrange a time to pick up a kit. Once you have your kit, go into your Summer Reading 2020 “Challenge” tab and follow the instructions to complete the Fantastic Foods and Where to Find Them challenge and to be entered for a chance to win a prize.
The third kind of challenge is the “Teen Summer Bucket List Challenge.” This is a list of challenges that you can work on throughout the entire Summer Reading Program and it can be turned into the library from July 20-July 31. For every item you complete and check off of the list you will get an entry into a multiple prize drawing at the end of the summer. You can do as few or as many of these challenges as you like, but you must fill out information at the top of the sheet completely and legibly to be eligible to win. These sheets can be picked up at the library by calling 824-1612 Monday-Friday 11:00 am- 6:00 pm to schedule a pick up time. You can also print one off from our web page at https://wellscolibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Teen_Summer_Bucket_Challenge_Sheet.pdf .
We miss seeing all of you and look forward to the day that we can be together again, but until then keep on reading, sign up for the Summer Reading Program, and have fun participating in the challenges!
