Miller Cemetery (Chester Township)
Location: On County Road 900 S and west of County Road 400 W in Chester Township, Wells County, Indiana.
The original introduction states “Mr. Henry Miller donated a portion of the land for this cemetery. The earliest burial date found here was Calvin Carney who died 1833, however the Miller descendants believe Henry Miller’s infant daughter was the first one to be buried, but due to vandalism no marker could be found for her grave. Data was submitted by Mr. & Mrs. Carlin Schoeff, members of the Wells County Historical Society.”
The Historical Hand Atlas Illustrated and the History of Wells County do not list Henry Miller in Chester Township. Both books list him as a landowner in Lancaster Township on November 10, 1832.
The Evening News-Banner centennial edition states “…first settlers of Chester township were Henry McCullick, Newton Putnam, Alpheus T. Stevens, Wilson Brown, Thomas blunt, and Joseph Blunt, who came in 1836; John Lancaster, Jonas Jarett, and Benjmain Starr in 1837; Isaac Lancaster, Alexander Walker, John McCullick, and J Brotherton, in 1838, Levi Philips, Franklin Spaulding, and James Jordon, in 1839…Osmund Morrison …first land entry on March 26, 1834…Lewis Mitchell, on February 16, 1835…
B. Elliott and C. Powell walked this cemetery in 2000.
