Prairie View Cemetery

Tocsin Cemetery

Location: On County Road 600 E north of County Road 700 N in Jefferson Township, Wells County, Indiana.

The original introduction states “Prairie View also known as the Tocsin Cemetery is situated on the ground once owned by Mr. John Johnson. The first person buried here was Cecil Sowards in 1900. Data was compiled by Betty Nyffeler, and Sally McKeel.”

The Bluffton Chronicle on March 31, 1909 wrote an article stating “…three acres of land purchased from the John H. Johnson farm, one and one-fourth miles north of Tocsin…model burying ground.  Deputy Surveyor Fred Davenport and Elmer Sark…to do survey and plat the tract of land and within a short time the association will be ready to sell lots.”

 J. Martin and V. Tester walked this cemetery during the summer of 1999.

The cemetery book was copied during the summer of 1999 and information from those records was incorporated into this updated index.
