- How much are overdues?
Extended User fees are 10 cents per
day, except for video cassettes and DVDs, which are $1.00 per tape
per day
- How much does it
cost to rent videos and DVDs?
Most videos cost 50
cents to rent with the exception of IVAN titles and those shelved in the adult
nonfiction, which do not have a fee.
- How old do you have to be
to check out videos?
Patrons must be 18 years old to check out most
videos. Young Adults (ages 12-17) may check out non-fiction
videos. Children under 18 may use their parents' cards to
check out any video, if the child brings the card with them and
their parent has signed their application allowing this.
- Can I renew my items?
Yes, as long as no one else has placed a hold on the
item. (Some types of items, e.g. magazines and most videos,
cannot be renewed.) You can renew items two times. 7-day
loan items may only be renewed once.
- Can I renew overdue items?
Yes, but you will need to pay the fine. If you renew by telephone or the
internet, the fine should be paid on your next visit to the
library.
- What else can I do via the
on-line library catalog?
You can check the availability of books, place holds and
check your account.
- How can I access my
account using the on-line library catalog?
Type your library card (all 14 digits)
and PIN in the appropriate boxes (found in the upper right hand
side). If you did not receive a PIN, contact the library.
- Can you let me know that my books are due?
Yes, if you give us your email address, our
computer will send a notice to your email account informing you that
you have items that are due in the next few days.
Please remember that email notifications
are not 100% reliable, since it is dependent on factors that are often out of
the sender’s control --- Internet service, Internet providers, and computer
hardware. Right now, dozens of our emailed pre-notice reminders “bounce-back”
every day due to expired and inactive e-mail accounts, full mailboxes, and other
unknown factors. Patrons will need to keep us up-to-date with current e-mail
addresses.
-
Can
you send out e-mail notices for upcoming book sales?
We have the capability — it is just a
matter organizing and setting up the system. Our goal is to have the updated
system running this year (2006). Since the library does not wish
to send out unsolicited e-mail, we will ask patrons to sign up for the type of
reminders and announcements they wish to receive. The library newsletter,
upcoming programs, book sales, and new book notifications are just some of the
options we plan to offer.
- How old do you have
to be to get a library card?
Children may get a
library card at age 4.
- Does it cost
anything to get a card?
People who reside in
Wells County, but not within the city limits of Markle, are entitled
to their first library card at no charge. Lost cards cost
$1.00 to replace. People who own property in Wells County are
also eligible for a free card.
- What do I need to get a
library card?
People over the age of 18 must bring proof of address when
they apply for their first library card. This can be a
driver's license, check, lease or any piece of mail other than a
personal letter. Children must have an adult sign their
application before they can get a card. Property owners must
bring their property tax bill.
- Why can't people in
Markle get a library card for free?
Libraries are supported
through property taxes. The residents of Markle pay their
library tax to the Huntington City-Township Public Library.
- Can I check out
books if I don't live in the Wells County Public Library's taxing
district?
Yes, by either
purchasing a non-resident card for the Wells County Public Library or by
buying a PLAC card.
- What is a PLAC
card?
A Public Library
Access Card allows patrons to check out books from any
library in the state of Indiana.
- How much does it
cost for a non-resident
card or a PLAC card?
The cost is determined by a formula.
fees.
- Do you offer public
FAX service, laminator or scanner?
The Library does not
provide these services for the public.
- Does the library
have a notary public?
A Notary Public is
available at both the Main Library in Bluffton and the Ossian
Branch. Please contact the library for available hours.
- What types of public computers do
you have?
Computers are available for database
searching, educational game playing,
Internet
access, and personal use (word
processing, spreadsheets, graphic design, etc). There is a printing fee: 10 cents per b/w page and
50 cents per color
page.
- Do you have programs for my
children at the Main Library?
information.
- How about at the Ossian
or Southern Wells Branches?
Click here for current information about
programs at Ossian or Southern
Wells.
- Do you have tax forms?
The library receives many standard forms from
the IRS and State of Indiana. These are free to patrons and
are usually available from mid-January through the end of
April. Other forms can be photocopied or downloaded from the
Internet. There is a 10 cent per page fee for
these. Federal forms are available at www.irs.ustreas.gov/formspubs/index.html
and state forms can be located at www.in.gov/dor/taxforms.
- Do you have books on
"do-it-yourself" divorce?
Yes, but the books are either in the reference collection,
which do not loan, or are deposit books, which require a deposit
before they can be checked out. Forms are also available on the internet at www.in.gov/judiciary/selfservice/forms.html.
How can patrons know if a book is large print?
Our large print books have
the letters "LP" at the end of the call number and the location is the
"Large Print Collection." Patrons can search just for Large Print
books by typing "large print" in the default search box or do a power
search and use the drop down box on the "location" option and select
"large print collection."

Will the computer
tell me what the #1 book in a series is?
We sympathize with how hard it is to keep
track of series so we try to label the spines with the series name and number.
If you know the series name, you can search for
it by putting the series in the search box and selecting "series" from the
drop down box. This will bring up all the titles we have in the library with
that series listed in their records. Also, if you find a book and want to know
if it is a series and has other titles, click on "details" and then select
the "catalog record" tab at the top. In the record you should find a series
listing. The name of the series is a link. If you click on it, it will bring up
the other titles we own in the series.
