Uniontown Cemetery

Location: On County Road 1150 N east of County Road 200 W, in Union Township, Wells County, Indiana.

The original introduction states “The Uniontown Cemetery came into existence after the Uniontown Church was built in 1830.Until this time most residents of this vicinity had used the old Uniontown Cemetery which lies a short distance back of the present site.  At one time there was a small settlement here which was also called Uniontown.  The first person buried in the new Uniontown Cemetery was Mrs. Samuel (Susannah) Nickelson, September 24, 1825.  Data was compiled by Mrs. Ival Allen and Miss Susan Allen.”

The Evening News-Banner centennial edition states “ Union township was the last township to be organized…not open for settlement until 1846, having been a part of the Miami Indian Reservation…first settlers…William Rosseau, James Edmundson, Joseph Rich, Milton Davis, Jacob DeWitt, John Wandel, Joseph Davis and E. Bagley”

C. Brubaker walked this cemetery in 1999.

Bill Trumbower brought in information, we copied it and incorporated it into this revised index.
